Strategic Collaboration Announcement
ROHM Co., Ltd. (Japan) and Tata Electronics (India) have announced a strategic partnership focused on expanding semiconductor manufacturing in India. The announcement, made in December 2025, aligns with national goals under the India Semiconductor Mission and highlights the growing role of Tata Electronics' semiconductor initiatives.
The collaboration combines ROHM Semiconductor India's technology capabilities with Tata Electronics’ assembly and testing infrastructure to strengthen India's chip manufacturing, particularly in the power and automotive semiconductor segments.
Integration With Tata’s Semiconductor Roadmap
This partnership supports Tata Electronics’ broader strategy to build an end-to-end Indian semiconductor industry, covering both front-end and backend operations.
a. Dholera Manufacturing Base
Tata Electronics, in partnership with PSMC, is developing a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera Smart City, Gujarat, with an investment of around US$11 billion. The project supports the Dholera Smart City project and strengthens semiconductor manufacturing in India, with production expected to begin around 2026.
b. Backend Assembly and Testing
Tata Electronics is also expanding its assembly, packaging, and testing (OSAT) operations across multiple locations. The ROHM partnership builds on these capabilities by adding specialized power semiconductor manufacturing expertise and advanced packaging know-how.
Global Market Reach and Supply Chain Impact
Semiconductor products developed through the Tata–ROHM collaboration are intended for both Indian and global markets. ROHM’s established international customer base and Tata Electronics’ manufacturing scale help integrate India into global semiconductor supply chains, enhancing export readiness and positioning India's semiconductor manufacturing as a reliable global contributor.
Infrastructure-Led Growth Around Dholera
The collaboration also reinforces infrastructure-led development around Dholera Smart City, supported by the DMIC corridor, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, and the upcoming Dholera International Airport. Developments such as the ABCD Building in Dholera further strengthen the region’s readiness for high-tech industrial activity.
