The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has requested a Rs 40,783 crore grant from the Government of India to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure in Sanand and Dholera SIR over the next six years. Of the five semiconductor facilities approved under the Semicon India programme, four are being set up in Gujarat. A chip packaging cluster is taking shape in GIDC Sanand, housing key projects by Micron Technology Inc., CG Semi, and Kaynes Semicon.
Meanwhile, India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication plant is being established in Dholera SIR by Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd., positioning the region as a global semiconductor hub.
